Fishermen From Sultra Were Apprehended in Australia

Kupang, Sorot Sultra – 5 fishermen from South East Sulawesi, Indonesia, were apprehended by Australia Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) at Australia waters border on Sunday, October 8th, 2017 (12.30 PM). They were caught for allegedly conducting illegal shark fishing in Darwin waters. This apprehension were revealed after Acting Consulate of Republic of Indonesia in Darwin, Australia received an official letter from AFMA.

The official letter, number AP17/18-001 on October 8th, 2017, wrote about the apprehension of a 5 Gross Tonnage boat, with Indonesian flag, brought 5 crews, who claimed from Bau-Bau, South East Sulawesi. In that notification, were revealed apprehension location on 10º25′ S and 128º19′ E, or 180 Nautical Miles from Northwest of Darwin waters.

The boat called KM. Hidup Bahagia, with 5 crews were brought to Darwin and will undergo trial at Darwin Locale Jurisdiction. The 5 crews name was La Karman (30) as the ship captain, La Hendri (23), La Sarwan (23), La Supriadin (23), and La ode Tahirman (37). Whereas, the shipowner is La Dando, Kupang citizen. Now, they are patching at Mercure Darwin Airport Resort for a while.

They were apprehended after their ship machine were ruined and somehow entering to Australia waters zone. They admitted start fishing on September 29, 2017 (04.00 AM) after got the Commissioning Certificate from Indonesia Fisheries Management Authority (Pengawas Perikanan) for shark fishing. Their boat were spotted by Australia Plane Patrol on October 7, 2017, and apprehended by Australia Run Boat on the next day with 200 Kilograms of Shark.

Indonesia Fisheries Management Authority in Nusa Tenggara Timur, Muhammad Saleh Goro agreed that Australian Authority apprehended a boat with Indonesian Flag. He said, “We were got information from Indonesian Embassy in Darwin about the apprehended of an Indonesian boat located on Laut Timor, and all crews came from South East Sulawesi.” The apprehension of 5 fishermen from Bau-Bau, were justified by Kabid Humas Polda Sultra, AKBP Sunarto, after our correspondent were called him by phone.

Now, Indonesian Government, represented by Acting Consulate of Republic of Indonesia at Darwin, coordinating with Australian Border Force (ABF), are certaining to meet with all of Indonesian Fishermen who detained in Darwin. (KK/RED-KDI)
